For almost
ten years Kai Tipping has shared the power of percussion
and rhythm, which he believes, can invigorate and unify
the community. He comes from a family immersed in the
creative arts and devoted to community transformation
and inclusiveness.
Kai currently lives in Melbourne where he runs regular
drum classes for all age groups that cover percussion
styles from Brazil to Ghana. He also facilitates ‘Recycled
Music’ workshops that involve participants’ constructing
and performing on instruments made from recycled
materials.
Over the years, Kai has worked extensively in the
community and has engaged a diverse range of people
in the power of music. This has taken various shapes;
including designing and implementing music courses
in disadvantaged schools, adult education workshops
and early childhood education ‘Bam Bam’ classes.
He is a seasoned performer and group leader who can
get everyone on their feet having an awesome time.
He is energetic, adventurous and an inspired change
agent. Kai has performed at major Australian festivals
and venues, such as Woodford Folk Festival, WoMad World
Music Festival, Bellingen Folk Festival, Canberra National
Folk Festival, Cockatoo Island Festival, Peats Ridge
Folk Festival and The Basement. He also initiated and
directed the annual Percussionale Festival in Newcastle,
which showcased local and international percussion
talents.
